The OpenStreetMap (OSM) India community is a vibrant, passionate group of volunteers dedicated to improving geospatial data for India and beyond. Since its inception, the community has actively contributed to mapping the state's diverse landscapes, urban infrastructure, public services, and natural resources. From mapping rural areas to updating city maps with the latest infrastructure changes, the India OSM community has played a crucial role in providing accurate, up-to-date, and freely accessible geographic information. Their efforts have been instrumental in promoting open data, driving collaboration between technologists, planners, and local governments.

The OpenStreetMap (OSM) India community has proven to be a pivotal force during times of crisis. During many natural disasters and calamities like floods, landslides, etc., the community mobilises rapidly, generating critical geospatial data that underpinned relief and rescue operations. Today, the community continues to expand its footprint through strategic workshops, mapping marathons, and partnerships with academic and government institutions. By championing open data and innovation, OSM India has established itself as a key stakeholder in the region's sustainable development and disaster resilience.

The OSM India Community had previously hosted the State of the Map Asia in 2018 and is now hosting the Inaugural edition of the State of the Map India in Nashik on 24 January 2026.
